A Restricted Health Condition is a higher-risk health issue regulated by Title 22. If a resident has one, you generally need a Restricted Health Care Plan (RHCP) to legally retain them.

An RHCP is a short, written addendum to the admission agreement that specifies exactly how staff will manage the condition. It’s written by a licensed nurse (RN) and approved by the physician, the licensee, and regional center when applicable. (Link: §80092.2 / RCFE parallel)

Restricted health conditions include: administration of oxygen or use of breathing machines (including IPPB); catheter care; colostomy/ileostomy care; enemas, suppositories, or fecal-impaction removal; diabetes management; injections; bowel or bladder incontinence; care of Stage 1–2 pressure injuries and other wound care; and contractures. ARF-only restricted items (not on the RCFE list) also include inhalation-assistive devices, gastrostomies, and tracheostomies. CVRC also commonly requires plans for certain “best-practice” situations (e.g., seizures, EpiPen, non-insulin diabetes, pacemakers, anticoagulants). (see RCFE §87612; ARF §80092)
